The Laboratory Assistant at New York Medical College (NYMC) will be an integral member of the laboratory environment supporting medical research in important areas of focus including cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, kidney disease, the neurosciences, disaster medicine, and vaccine development. This position may involve various responsibilities including but not limited to assisting with the design and performance of experiments, documenting results, maintaining laboratory equipment and stock, and ensuring laboratory organization. The level of independence and supervision may vary based on the lab’s focus, the candidate’s experience, ability to multitask among other factors. The specific duties for the lab environment are highlighted below.
The Laboratory Assistant will be assisting with the oversight of the preparation, storage and inventory control of experimental samples, laboratory equipment and supplies. Daily responsibilities will include varietal lab experiments i.e. cell culture, western blotting, PCR/RT-PCR, microscopy staining and data analysis. Weekly responsibilities include mouse colony maintenance, placing and logging lab orders, performing research on topics related to current projects, and presentation of lab data. Experience with diabetes related studies is preferred.
