Overview

New York Medical College (NYMC) is seeking a part-time social media specialist to join the Office of Public Relations who will be responsible for working directly under the senior director of strategic communications to create compelling social media posts for all NYMC’s social media channels. This position supports NYMC’s core messaging and ensures its brand is effectively communicated social media to foster engagement and drive NYMC’s brand awareness. This position will be up to 20 hours per week on our Valhalla, NY campus at a rate of $20 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate projects with the Office of Public Relations to develop social media content utilizing photos, videos, and news coverage that accurately reflect the NYMC brand
  • Attend events and campus activities to take photos and videos for social media
  • Interview NYMC students, faculty, staff and alumni, to write compelling posts
  • Track NYMC media coverage to share on social media
  • Produce short social media video clips; planning, recording, editing and performing all related production activities using video editing software and/or apps
  • Network with students, staff and faculty, to create program-related content and publicize events
  • Launch an NYMC presence on TikTok and develop content in line with the NYMC brand
  • Monitor and track social media engagement and statistics
  • Stay current on peer-institutions, industry standards and innovation through a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of communications, content strategy, social media and issues that affect higher education
  • Serve, at all times, as a champion and advocate of NYMC through excellent communication skills
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Skills

(A) Education requirement:  Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or a related field.

(B) Licenses or certifications:  Must have a valid driver’s license.

(C) Technical/computer skills:  Using social media on behalf of a company required, as well as knowledge of video editing software/apps

(D) Prior experience: One year of experience developing content on behalf of an organization for social media. 

(E) Other skills/requirements: None

 

Physical and Environmental Demands

 

Physical: Work is typically performed in a standard office environment; however, photography and video work may be performed both indoors and outdoors. Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding functions. Physical skill is required for photography and video recording on location, loading and unloading video and lighting equipment and driving between campuses. Work may require standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.

Environmental:  Work schedule is often unpredictable and necessitates operating under tight deadlines; occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Travel to local off-campus meetings and events may be required.

Minimum Salary

USD $16.00/Hr.

Maximum Salary

USD $20.00/Hr.
