Overview

The role of Manager, Alumni Engagement is a critical one, as there is great potential for increasing the connections between alumni and the schools of New York Medical College (NYMC).  Serving as a key member of an integrated development and alumni relations department, the Manager will be part of a collaborative and collegial team.  The Manager will play a role in working with the School of Medicine Alumni Association (a separate 501C3 organization) and its Board of Governors with the aim of creating a fully cooperative working relationship and shared goals.  The Manager will also work to expand alumni relations efforts to be more inclusive of alumni from NYMC’s School of Health Sciences and Practice, and Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences. 

 

The Manager will work to expand and grow NYMCconnect, the online community for NYMC alumni, built in the Graduway platform.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a plan to increase the outreach to and engagement of alumni of New York Medical College, for each of its three schools with an ultimate goal of increasing fundraising activity.
  • Determine goals and measurable performance metrics with respect to all alumni engagement activities, including a tie to philanthropic support by alumni.
  • Proactively devise, oversee the planning and successful execution of various alumni focused events that are sponsored either by NYMC, the School of Medicine Alumni Association, and/or hosted by lay leaders. These include small parlor type meetings, reunion gatherings, stewardship, and other events.
  • Create and implement communications plan to alumni including traditional, online, and social media. Devise relevant metrics to track the impact and success of such communications efforts.
  • Serve as the liaison with the School of Medicine Alumni Association, its Board of Governors (BOG) and committees.
  • Oversee alumni activities of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and work with its newly formed Alumni Council. Collaborate with Director of Philanthropic Initiatives, who is currently staffing and directing the SHSP Alumni Council, including the creation of a multi-year plan with measurable goals and metrics for achievement.

Qualifications

(A) Education requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

(B) Licenses or certifications: N/A

 

(C) Technical/computer skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge. Experience with Graduway helpful, but not required.
  • Proficiency in social media

(D) Prior experience:

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in an alumni relations department preferably in a medical school or other higher education institution. Demonstrated success in setting and achieving goals.
  • Volunteer management experience with high level committees
  • Management experience of support staff

(E.) Other skills/requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and creative
