Overview

New York Medical College is seeking a part time Microscopic Imaging Specialist for its Histopathology and Imaging Core. Under the direction of the facility managers the Microscopic Imaging Specialist will be required to operate and maintain the high-end microscopic imaging systems within the facility including a new Zeiss LSM 980 plus Airyscan II Confocal System. The individual will also be responsible for training and assistance of researchers using the microscopy systems within the core facility. Experience with fluorescence microscopy and confocal imaging of life and fixed samples is preferred. Individual must be able to communicate effectively with researchers.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide user and instrumentation oversight and training for the NYMC Florescence Microscopy Imaging Core that includes a Zeiss LSM 980 plus Airyscan 2 Confocal, multiple wide-field florescence microscopes, Leica Microdissection System, and other imaging equipment.
  2. Keep records of the microscopes utilization and prepare monthly accounts of facility utilization for billing purposes.
  3. Provide microscopy imaging on a fee for service basis.
  4. Provide additional support for the Histopathology Lab in the Histopathology and Imaging Core as time permits.
  5. Work with the Confocal Leadership Team to optimize use of the Confocal System and to prepare annual reports to the National Institutes of Health Shared Instrumentation Program.

Qualifications

(A) Education Requirement:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant science is required plus two years additional related research experience.

 

(B) Licenses or Certifications:

related licenses or certifications are advantageous.


(C) Technical/Computer Skills:

Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Programs.  Demonstrated competence in brightfield, fluorescence, confocal microscopy, computer operation, image analysis and immunohistological techniques is preferred.


(D) Prior Experience:

Prior experience with florescence microscopy and confocal microscopy is preferred. Previous laboratory experience in a basic science field if preferred.


(E) Physical & Environmental Demands:

Lifting up to 25 lbs.
