The Biomedical Ethics and Humanities Program at New York Medical College seeks to recruit a non-tenure-track, Assistant Professor level faculty member in clinical ethics and bioethics.

This is a two year appointment effective July 1, 2020-June 30, 2022. This appointment is renewable once contingent upon successful reappointment, and may be turned into a tenure track position. 

This is primarily an educator position, though pursuit of research and ethics consultation is encouraged/ expected.



Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching the equivalent of three courses per semester. One’s teaching load may be spread out to include summer sessions.  It may also include teaching in one of the other health professional programs at NYMC.
  • Clinical ethics consultation responsibilities at one of NYMC’s hospital affiliates.
  • Mentoring health professional and graduate students.
  • Helping create and teach continuing education programs
  • Working with the Director on organizing meetings, conferences, and research projects
  • Pursuing a line of bioethical research and inquiry that leads to presentations at national meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals


Core qualifications include:

  • Applicants must have an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
  • Areas of work within bioethics that will receive preference are pediatric ethics, geriatric ethics, Artificial Intelligence and big data, genetics, and/or organizational ethics.
