Overview

The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive support for the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department at New York Medical College. This position serves as a key contact for faculty, staff and managers, supporting HR operations, and helping to manage HR systems, while also partnering with HR leadership to deliver excellent client service across the organization.

 

The HR Generalist will act as a liaison between employees and HR functional areas, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses to inquiries, and contributing to continuous process improvement within the department. This role combines transactional HR responsibilities with broader generalist duties, including employee relations, communications, and project support.

Responsibilities

Employee & Client Support

  • Serve as a primary HR contact for employee inquiries, providing accurate information or referring complex issues to the appropriate HR team member.
  • Provide day-to-day, transactional support for HR technology systems, including user assistance, data updates, and basic troubleshooting.

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Support the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring completion of pre-employment requirements, E-Verify, background checks, and new hire documentation when needed.
  • Facilitate the offboarding process, including exit documentation and coordination with payroll and benefits, and all other necessary systems.

Benefits & Leave Administration

  • Coordinate and track employee leaves of absence (FMLA, PFL, STD, LTD), partnering with the third-party administrators.
  • Handle workers’ compensation claims and related communications.

HR Operations & Systems

  • Assist in data management by maintaining and updating employee records in Banner and document management systems.
  • Manage vendor invoices, requisitions, and budget tracking for HR-related expenses.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in HR systems and data management.

Additional Projects

  • Collaborate with Touro University HR colleagues on cross-campus initiatives.
  • All other tasks as assigned by either the Assistant Director or Director of Human Resources.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4+years) in HR
  • 1-2 years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws
  • Experience maintaining confidential employee records and HRIS systems
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Experience supporting multiple Human Resources Functions

Minimum Salary

USD $50,096.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $62,620.00/Yr.
