Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Simulation Technologies, the Simulation Operations Associate is a position vital to maintaining the quality of clinical skills and simulation programs occurring during and after normal business hours.  This role will provide hands-on support for medical simulation activities, including operating high-fidelity manikins, assisting with the video capture/data collection of clinical skills assessments, aiding with the setup/facilitation of computer-based examinations, and acting as the point person for inventory management involving manikins, task trainers, and medical supplies. The simulation and technical coordinator will also be required to assist with various administrative tasks related to technical activities of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center and the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education/Educational Technology as needed. Superior customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of organizational personnel, staff/faculty, and students are paramount.

Responsibilities

Simulation:

  • Maintain an up-to-date collection of student and faculty orientation guides
  • Independently operate programed events on SimMan 3G and SIM Junior (especially when multiple manikins are in use at the same time)
  • Assist the Manager of Simulation Technologies with programming manikin-based simulation software
  • Participate in the setting up and breaking down of medical simulation equipment (e.g. task trainers and high fidelity patient mannequins)
  • Confer with faculty, physicians, and other department managers to resolve operational problems and promote positive communicators within simulation sessions
  • Manage Harvey mannequin maintenance and operations.
  • Serve as a proctor and student liaison for standardized patient assessments occurring in person or virtually as needed

Inventory Management:

  • Assist in the creation and management of a system for tracking all simulation inventory including but not limited to manikin replacement parts, task based trainers, medical supplies needed to assist simulation sessions
  • Confer with faculty, physicians, and other department managers to ensure that all supplies needed for each simulation session are in stock and have been set-up/transported prior to the start of the session
  • Ensure that simulation supply areas are up-to-date and fully supplied at all times
  • Manage task trainer/ medical supply transport that is needed for programs not occurring onsite at the clinical skills center.
  • Manage student tablets for note documentation and interpretation of lab results/images
  • Perform maintenance on simulation supplies (i.e., regularly swapping out consumable parts on task trainers and manikins)

Audio Visual/Simulation Based Testing:

  • Independently operate IP based robotic cameras through a LearningSpace test capture software
  • Assist the Manager of Simulation Technologies with programming LearningSpace for simulation assessments
  • Provide real-time technical support for technology platforms such as Microsoft Teams, LLEAP, LearningSpace, etc while escalating issues to NYMC IT and outside vendors when necessary
  • Track simulation requests and ensure that all requested equipment is in place for special events occurring at the CSSC
  • Assist Manager of Simulation Technologies with events that require real-time/onsite AV support while working closely with NYMC AV and ET as necessary
  • Support program directors with AV/Computer needs on teaching days at the CSSC

Educational Support:

  • Manage and track changes on simulation scenarios created by faculty
  • Maintain consistent proficiency on simulation scenarios
  • Have a working understanding of standardized patient scenarios and checklists
  • Assist the Manager of Simulation Technologies with creation of “how-to” simulation guides
  • Participate in daily interaction with students, faculty, and standardized patients.

Training Support:  

  • Create student and faculty test capture/video guides
  • Assist with SP/Faculty/Student technology training sessions
  • Facilitate transport/implementation of task trainers to other educational spaces on campus
  • Provide technical support for SP and Student Post Station Computers on testing days escalating any issues to NYMC IT
  • Must be comfortable addressing large groups of people and be able to speak with both clarity and detail when disseminating session/testing instructions.

Qualifications

Education requirement: Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience required.

 

Licenses or certifications: BLS instructor, simulation certification, and Laerdal LEEAP proficient; preferred, not required.

 

Technical/Computer skills:

  • Laerdal manikin operational experience; CAE LearningSpace programming experience required
  • Advanced technology and PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook) and an understanding of intermediate IT principles required
  • IT and/or AV event and installation experience and a working knowledge of and media production/streaming preferred

 Other Skills:

  • Ability to learn and be comfortable with medical terms/medical teaching practices
  • Knowledge of basic clinical skills and ability to promote collaboration and team teaching
  • Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions
  • Able to grasp and make use of abstract processes
  • Flexible schedule beyond that of 9am-5pm for scheduled programs

 Prior Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience working in a simulation center or environment where medical simulation occurs
  • Minimum 3 years experience reporting to a mid-level professional, preferably in a clinical, college, or university setting

 

Physical Demands: Must be able to demonstrate the ability to comfortably lift up to 50 pounds as well as manipulate objects up to 125 pounds

USD $44,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $55,000.00/Yr.
