The Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) in addition to other activities provides educational and technical assistance to healthcare entities, communities, first responders, law enforcement, schools, and public health agencies across the State of New York in the areas of disaster, operational and tactical medicine. The CDM is seeking an experienced educator to perform the various activities including, but not limited to: development and delivery of course content including programs that are designed for hospital providers, first responders, law enforcement, fire service and school professionals. The educator will also be expected to work closely with CDM staff and their supporting cadre of subject matter experts and researchers. The educator role will also involve exercise evaluation and development. This role will have up to 25% travel within New York State and occasional travel to other domestic locations. This is a grant funded position.
Education requirement: Bachelors degree or equivalent as determined by NYMC
Licenses or certifications: Certificate/License as a law enforcement officer, paramedic, or equivalent acceptable to NYMC. Instructor certification in continuing education programs (ACLS, TECC, Law Enforcement) preferred.
Technical/computer skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Proficiency in remote/virtual communications platforms such as Teams, Zoom, etc. ardous Materials training including instructor qualifications for hazardous materials awareness and technical emergency response preferred.
Prior experience: Prior employment as a law enforcement officer, paramedic, or healthcare professional within the previous 10 years, 5-10 years of experience in education (design, conduct and evaluation) and 3-5 years of experience in evaluation and planning of multi-hazard emergency preparedness initiatives or equivalents. Prior experience with web based education design prefered.
Physical demands: Able to climb steps without assistive devices; Carry objects up to 100 lbs without assistance; Carry objects greater than 100 lbs with assistance; Able to walk, crawl, run, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time.
Environmental demands: Able to perform duties indoors and outdoors without restriction regardless of environmental conditions.
